Region 5 Preview

10/31/2017

Region 5 consists of fives schools from Davis, Weber and Box Elder county. This is a very balanced region with any team being able to win on a night-to-night basis. Here is our preview....

1) Bountiful High School: The Braves have been down in recent years which is unusual for Coach Maxwell who has been one of the winningest coaches in the past 20 years. This year we believe they will be back on top and will win Region 5. The Braves are lead by junior guard Brig Willard who is coming off of a junior year that he averaged over 16 points per game. Senior guards Jadon Chism and Cooper Ohlson will be very important role players as they should provide some needed outside shooting.

T-2) Viewmont High School: The Vikings are coming off of a quarter-final finish in the state tournament but they will be without their leading scorer Lewis Johnson who has since graduated. 6'7 senior forward Chandler Cox should be a key piece to their success as he is able to score inside and out. Josh Mordue and Spencer Mackay will also be key has they combined for 64 made threes last year.

T-2) Roy High School: The Royals missed the play-offs last year but return a majority of their core players and I think this will get them back into the play-offs. They are lead by three seniors Alex Lamb, Alex Holley and Ben McBride. Lamb is an athletic guard who is very good at getting to the hoop and also plays great defense. McBride is a 6'8 big man that can shoot the ball from the outside and can also score inside. Holley is able to do a little bit of everything and he will need to have a good year in order for Roy to compete for the 2nd seed in Region 5.

T-2) Box Elder High School: The Bees struggled last year as they missed the play-offs but I think they will scrap their way back into the play-offs. Max Watson is where the Bees start and end as he averaged nearly 25 points per game. I think this year he will need to score but also get others involved. 6'6 senior Porter Clawson is poised to have a great year and he should get plenty of open looks playing along side Watson.

5) Woods Cross High School: The wildcats lost one of the scorers in the State and BYU player Trevin Knell and to make things even harder they lose a majority of their team from last year. The Wildcats doesn't return any player that averaged over 1 point per game. 6'5 Senior Tyler Cowley should be a key player if he is able to stay healthy. He is able to score inside and also and step out and hit the three. Woods Cross is an unknown team so they could be much better than the 5th seed in Region 5
